Form + Space

Miles has been a pleasure to work with. From the start, the procedure and cost were explained very clearly. He is completely open, unambiguous and transparent with his pricing.

He is professional, practical and creative. We wanted a clean, high-impact site that would be virtually future-proof and easily edited by ourselves.

He listened to our brief and interpreted the 'spirit' of our business with ease. He created a website that accurately represents our business and its ethos. He was both receptive and responsive to our ideas and kept us informed at every stage of the design process. Once the initial meeting had taken place, most of the process was carried out over the telephone and by e-mail. This was very convenient for us due to our respective geographical locations.

His advice and professionalism has been very much appreciated. Already, we are reaping the benefits from the enquiries we have received.

Miles’ clarity, openness and attention to detail has resulted in a product that is easy to follow for the end-user — try it yourself and see what we mean!

Iridescence

Miles is passionate about design. He is also commercially astute, an innovative thinker and indisputably an exceptional designer.

When it came to choosing someone to design the website for Iridescence, it had to be Miles. We had worked together before and I just knew he would deliver a brilliant site and he did. To be really honest, this job was so important to me, I just wasn’t prepared to risk using anyone else. Judging by the enthusiastic feedback I've been getting daily from my clients and partners since the site was launched last month, he has a lot more fans out there.

Sometime I think he understands what his clients are trying to achieve better than they do themselves! A bit like a sixth sense which means he goes right beyond the brief and produces results which are truly inspired and have that trademark ‘creative cool’ that is quintessentially Miles.

But, most important of all, he’s 100% plugged into the ‘business brief’ – the entire design and functionality of my site was designed to attract new clients and in only a matter of weeks, it certainly has. I reckon the site has probably paid for itself a few times over already – a pretty good return on investment in my book.

Sure PR

I had a vague idea of what I wanted. So with a half-arsed brief Miles knocked it in to shape and lived up to his boastful claims that he actually does knows what he’s talking about. He turned the project around in a short time frame despite claiming to be supremely busy, but maybe he tells every client that to make them feel they’re getting a special service.

He not only produced a classy, smart, easy-on-the-eye and easy-to-use website but came up with the corporate image thingy that I needed.

Here’s one typical comment from the communications manager of a large public body: ‘The new website looks bloody fantastic. Really clear, crisp and very personal. Totally different to just about every other site that's floating about. Cracking good stuff.’

The Cress Co

Miles’ design-orientated web building provided us with a website and promotional literature which stands head and shoulders above our competition.

He understood our business and what we wanted to achieve online and put forward a selection of imaginative solutions. He may not be the cheapest web designer (due to his beef jerky addiction) but he is definitely one of the best.

He is also a fantastic spell-checker and makes a great cup of tea.

Catherine Nelson Pollard

I live over a thousand miles and quite a few borders away from Flying Solo's office. I haven’t got a corporate image or a company philosophy. I've never met Miles.

Despite all this, he homed in on what was needed for my website and quickly came up with suggestions. Some of these suggestions came accompanied with bon mots and witticisms. Sometimes my obtuse questions came back accompanied with acerbic answers, but this only added to the fun of working with him. He is quite affable really, knows exactly what he is doing and has the experience to show for it.

If you need any more convincing, just take a look at the exceptional body of work and design that has come off his personal production line. I am very impressed with my site, the feedback from colleagues here in Switzerland and across the world has been extremely positive. Merci beaucoup Miles.

Discovery Coaching

This is just a short note to say thanks and well done for all your work on our website and corporate image.

I have appreciated how well you were able to understand what I was looking for, get me to verbalise it and then improve on it. This is the first time we have had a truly integrated corporate image and it makes some really strong statements about us and our services. Our new website reflects the growth and maturity of the business and the brochure captures our message well – we are delighted with them both.

You have always been available to us to make suggestions, debate, make recommendations and give advice – your perspective and ability has been greatly valued. You seem to genuinely care about how the designs are used… not just that they look visually attractive.

After searching and speaking to many web designers I could not believe my luck when I came across Miles! He had a fresh approach to design and his style and personality were invaluable in helping me to take a bunch of disparate ideas in my head and turn it into a website that I really love.

He took time to get to know me and understand my needs. And was genuinely interested in helping me create a site that really reflects my business and and my style.

Thanks Miles – a fantastic job!

sell-by date?

How long does a website last?

Difficult question to answer definitively. I tend to think in terms of three to four years on average, but that’s not because the design is necessarily past a nominal ‘sell-by date,’ more often it’s because the client’s rebranding, or their business has changed substantially, or they’ve been taken over, gone bust, wandered off to the pub etc.

But equally technology marches on and there are things I can do now which simply didn’t exist not so very long ago. Some of my recent work has involved changing not so much the look of sites I designed a few years back (if it ain’t broke…) but rather updating the technology ‘under the bonnet’ usually with a view to enhancing existing functionality or adding new features.
