stuff to read, apparently/april 2010

have we met?

probably not in all likelihood...

Broughty whatty?

In recent times, I’ve never even met an increasingly large number* of my clients and have only a vague idea of where they live or what kind of biscuits they like. The same, I dare say, is pretty much true in reverse.

But the geographical fact that I’m in Broughty Ferry and you’re almost certainly not really isn’t an issue. There hasn’t been an instance where the small matter of county, national or even international borders intervening has proved a problem (I have clients scattered throughout the UK as well as ones based in Switzerland, Romania and Luxembourg).

I met one client for the first time a couple of weeks back after working extensively for them for several years (and funnily enough, website design never even came up).

I’m hoping you’re rather gullible a decent sort.

Obviously there’s an element of mutual trust involved — I’m trusting you to pay me, you’re trusting me not to abscond with your cash (“who? nope, never heard of him…”) but it seems to work fine. Indeed, several of these glowing testimonials are from clients I’ve never clapped eyes on, and I bet you can’t tell which (apart from Catherine’s obviously, but that’s because she happens to mention the fact. D’oh!).

As ever, communication is the key, and looking around my desk I can see several ways of doing that, even without dispatching one of the cats with the appropriate bus fare and a note.

Small world indeed, so get in touch

*About half in fact, calculated by both number and revenue.

I was just typing thinking…
