stuff to read, apparently/september 2010

so, how many days?

no really, how much time do I have? How much?

great project, just one small catch, given I got the call on August 31st.

“There’s a public launch for the campaign scheduled quite soon...” Uh-huh. Go on. “For 2000 plus people at 9am on September 10th…”

Concept to creation in seven working days

Okay, first up was the logo. EMAT already had a logo (ahem) which left something to be desired. Minor issue was they wanted to retain the basic concept (their primary involvement is with the prevention and treatment of eye disease) and colourway but make it more modern, more sophisticated and more flexible.

That’ll be a challenge then.

The new logo, and a set of guidelines for colour coding depending on application, was duly produced two days later. I think it’s fair to say cue one absolutely delighted client.

EMAT logo design

Coasting now, with a whole five days left to design print and the website and get the latter up and running… (if you noticed I wasn't responding to non-essential email, apologies, but now you know why).

These days I occasionally like to sleep or go to the bathroom, so it was agreed with the client that getting the full, CMS-managed site coded in three days wasn’t feasible, accordingly we settled on a 2 or 3 page ‘micro-site’ for the launch date. In fact it turned out to be a 5 or 6 page ‘micro-site’ but hey, who’s counting? (Who’s got bloody time to count?)

EMAT print and web concepts

Bottom line, did we make it? Yup. Launch event was at 9am on the 10th, last files were uploaded to the server at, er, 8.44am. Sixteen minutes to spare – amazingly the client didn’t think of ‘just one more thing’ for me to add.

Plan is to have the full version of the site online by late September, which the EMAT team will then be able to update themselves, whether from the UK or Pakistan.

The client is really pleased with the outcome, and has been showering me with praise. Of course, with four centuries of Calvinist in-breeding to contend with, I don’t accept this gracefully, and can only revert to my customary mantra of ‘don’t applaud, just throw money…’

Except of course in this case throw it to them.

I was just typing thinking…
